How to Make Your Shop More Sustainable

If you’re running your own store, you want to do as much as you can to impress your customers. Happy customers lead to good profits because a happy customer will either recommend your business elsewhere or they’ll keep coming back to shop with you. One of the best ways that you can ensure that you are impressing your customers is to make your shop more sustainable.

We’re living in a world of fast fashion and fast everything else, but yours doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, you can make sure that your business is good for the environment and you can let your customers know about your new sustainable model to really impress them and promote yourself. Whether you’re switching from plastic bags to custom bags made with paper, or you decide to go paperless entirely with your receipt system, you need to do all that you can to implement sustainable practices and make your business stand out for all of the right reasons. Let’s take a look at how you can make your retail store more sustainable.

Choose online receipts every time.

Paper receipts are a killer when it comes to environmental impact and let’s be honest, everybody just throws them away anyway. Encouraging an alternative to paper receipts is just better for your business. For those who want the receipt, they can give you their email address and you can email it to them. For those who don’t want receipts, you get to save some time. So it’s a win-win situation all round. Getting rid of your paper receipts is going to help you to maximize your business and improve the way things are.

Encourage your customers to pick up their orders.

If you’ve been selling things online, you’ll notice all of the boxes and packaging material can add up.If you want to make your packaging more sustainable, you can swap from plastics to choosing recycled materials. You could also cut down on Styrofoam that you’re using. One of the best things that you can do, however, is encourage local online shoppers to pick up their goods. That cuts down the need for packaging all together. If you’re not ready to open your business up to in store pickup just yet, or your customers aren’t ready to come into store, you can still offer curbside pickup as an option, but you can just switch over your packaging to be way more sustainable.

Start recycling those used gift cards.

Offer customers who return gift cards at 10% off when they shop in your store. You don’t want to keep ordering new plastic gift cards if you’re going to be able to recycle them. There are so many companies out there that can help you to do this, but if you give your customers an incentive to return those gift cards that were used, you’re going to go further.

Keep track of your inventory.

A sustainable shop is not one that has inventory rolling over everywhere. In fact, you want to make sure that you are keeping up with your inventory so you know. How much of each product you’ve got at any given time? Doing this will stop you from over ordering and having more than you need.
