How to Improve Tired, Strained and Irritated Eyes

With the amount of time most of us spend on screens and devices, we’re actually pushing our vision to the absolute limit some days. You might just accept the chronic headache that comes with it as a normal part of getting older, then rub your tired eyes after staring at a glowing laptop all day, and then immediately look at your smaller glowing phone to try and relax. It’s a completely normal modern routine that leaves us feeling physically awful and looking entirely drained. If you’re tired of feeling and looking tired, and are ready to care for your strained and irritated eyes, read on for some tips.

Small daily changes

You can’t just hope that your eye strain will magically go away if you’re doing absolutely nothing to change your daily routine. If your eyes are struggling, then you’ll probably have to actually alter how you interact with your physical space. Move your computer monitor further back on the desk. Buy some basic lubricating eye drops from any pharmacy and leave them right next to your keyboard so you actually remember to use them.

You should also try looking at something twenty feet away for twenty seconds every twenty minutes to give your focus a genuine reset. As much as it can be annoying to keep track of something like this, it really helps stop those tiny facial muscles from locking up into a permanent squint.  Turn off the bright overhead lights in your kitchen and use a small table lamp instead to help your tired brain wind down. Cutting down screen time isn’t always possible when you work a desk job, but get yourself a cheap pair of blue light glasses, which can help.

Physical changes to your eyes

Sometimes the issue goes beyond screen time and terrible desk habits. You can do all the eye exercises and use the drops religiously every single morning, but your eyelids might just be physically heavy anyway. Genetics play a big part here, and gravity always wins eventually (no matter how much water you drink and the skincare you use). If you’ve got excess skin weighing down your lids and making your eyes look genuinely exhausted all day, then looking into oculoplastic surgery like a blepharoplasty is a practical option to consider.

It’s a highly effective medical fix that opens up your field of vision and makes your face feel physically lighter instead of just slathering on expensive creams that promise completely impossible results. Why suffer through heavy drooping lids when a skilled doctor can easily solve the structural problem for you?! It can be the most logical way to improve your daily comfort and stop your eyes from aching by dinner time.

Improve the air

Sometimes, your indoor environment is the main thing making your eyes feel completely exhausted. You don’t need an air purifier to tackle this problem. Just open a window for ten minutes to get some real air moving or give your floors a proper vacuum, so they’re not just holding onto invisible allergens. Taking a cool, damp cloth and actually gently washing your eyelids before bed clears away all that daily grime so you can wake up feeling genuinely refreshed.
