Changing our Mindset as we Closeout 2020

This year has been one of change and growth for so many. In order to end this year on a positive note I am sharing some ideas on changing our mindset as we closeout 2020.

I am sure you are like me and ready to see 2020 come to an end.

Instead of looking at the end of the year in that way, it is better to change your mindset and how you think when looking back on 2020 and into 2021.

Yes it has been difficult at best, but if you are reading this there is still so much to be thankful for.

You may have to really dig to begin finding the positive things that came about the last eight months or so, but trust me there are plenty of positives.

Effects of a Negative Mindset

Most people know that having a negative mindset can become a habit in our daily lives.

So much that we can become unaware at just how negative we are being.

Changing our mindset is important for the closeout of 2020 and the beginning of 2021.

Thinking this way has many effects like feeling angry, frustrated, irritable and anxious.

One may not realize that these feelings are being brought on by having a negative mindset.

These thoughts over time can lead to depression and lead to physical effects.

Physical effects that can occur are lack of energy, poor diet and lack of motivation.

But it is not to late to change our mindset and end the year on a positive note.

Things to Think About

Lets face it, 2020 has been tough and 2021 may not be any different, making it even more important to change our mindset.

One important idea in creating a more positive mindset is “less is more.”

Simplifying our lives and paying more attention to the small things.

Some things to think about?

  • What makes you happy?
  • Things that make you smile?
  • What do you enjoy doing the most?

Take those things and make room for them in your life while practicing daily gratitude.

Practice Gratitude to Change Attitude

A great way to find the positives is daily gratitude practice.

I am certain you have heard of this concept.

Practicing gratitude helps to change our mindset by living more consciously in the moment.

Doing this on a daily basis in a sincere and authentic manner can change your life and mindset.

Being grateful for family, friends, a job, home and health combined with smaller things in life keeps things in perspective.

Negative things will always happen but having a positive mindset helps us to be more resilent during difficult times.

A way to practice daily gratitude is to write about it.

Gratitude Journaling

So where to begin?

Everyday when you get up, before starting your day, write down one or two positive things in your life.

If you find it hard, start with really small things.

Being grateful for getting a good night’s sleep, hot coffee or a favorite cozy sweater.

Really being grateful for the small things in life also helps us out of the consumerism mindset.

If we are truly grateful for what we have, we will not desire to acquire more.

Doing this every day will help you to find little things that you may have not paid attention to.

Constantly dwelling on the negative things that have been going on creates stress and makes it harder to find the joy in everyday.

Finding joy in the everyday helps build emotional resilience making it easier to handle more difficult times.

You can also create a chart.

Creating a Negative/Positive Chart

Take a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle.

On the left side write down all your negative thoughts or mindsets.

The right side is for you to write down the positive replacements.

This can help you put on paper any negative thoughts you have been experiencing and figure out how you can replace it with something positive.

This will help you actively create an attitude change.

Attitude Changes

Creating daily gratitude habits help to change our mindset and our attitudes.

Our attitude and mindset is completely in our control when many things happening around us are not.

It has been shown that people with a more positive mindset, attitude and outlook on life have happier lives.

When your attitude has changed solutions come easier and life’s obstacles seem less impossible to overcome.

Also with the mindset change comes increased energy and more motivation.

All around the effects of changing our mindset creates a positive mental and physical attitude.

These simple tasks can help you create the mindset needed to get through the end of 2020 and into 2021.

Happy New Year!
