We all make goals this time of year, and we should – learning and growing should be something we aspire to always do. Realizing where we are right now, and loving who we are right now, and reaching for the next level.
What does your dream life look like 5, 10, 40 years down the road?
Take a Moment and Let Her Be Seen
Envision a future YOU living her best life. Now focus in a little on that movie clip playing in your mind. Not on what car she drives or what exotic beach she’s lounging at, but close your eyes and dig deep, and get an idea of WHO she is – what is she passionate about, how does she feel, what is important to her, what has she created in this life she loves?
I’ll give you a minute to really SEE her.
Keep that vision of YOU handy as you go through this month. Taking a look at the habits you have today, and what her habits are. What’s her routine, what’s important in her life, and what choices does she make every day. You can learn a lot from her on your growth journey. She’s pretty awesome! And just a reminder, YOU are her!
My mantra for this year, Learn.Change.Grow.
Three little words, but there is so much meaning in that simple little phrase.
We don’t just learn and grow. The middle part, the part that molds the learning and the growth together – is the change. Change habits, change mindset, change routine. Whatever the change is, it allows for the growth to happen.
Changing not because we are flawed or damaged. Changing because we are constantly learning how to better align our path with the one that leads to the version of ourselves we aspire to bloom into.
It’s the CHANGE that brings us from learning to growth.
High School Chemistry and Change
I am an avid note taker. So much so that in high school I tried to take detailed notes, and fast so I didn’t miss anything. When going back to study I could barely read my own handwriting. So I started to use symbols and phrases or code words to remind me of the rest of the lecture so I didn’t have to write everything out, figuring less words would hopefully mean my notes would at least be legible. I still use ▲ today in place of writing “change”.
I’m going somewhere with this, I promise.
Remember writing equations and chemical reaction formulas in chemistry? That’s where the ▲ comes from. The ▲ is placed at the point of the equation where the reaction or “change” happens.
The symbol signifies that energy (in the form of heat) is introduced into the experiment. That applied energy, or “activation”, is the catalyst for molecular level changes. The compounds in the equation break apart, change, and become a new variation, made up of the same molecules.
Dirt and coal get pressed and heated, and morph into diamonds just below the crusty surface.
Emerging Thru the Delta
The symbol itself is called “Delta”. In Greek that is the 4th letter of the alphabet, or what we use to name frat houses, and in the military it is the phonetic pronunciation for the letter “D” when you are spelling a word out loud.
Also, the triangular mouth of a river where it flows into a larger body of water is also referred to as a “delta” which is where the silt gets churned up and the water starts to adjust speed. The river finds it’s path and flows calmly as it merges into the ocean.
That is to say, the river is still the same water it had always carried within itself, but in the delta, that water breaks free, growing into the whole of the ocean, limitless.
Change = ▲ = Energy + Action
So, change happens out of energy and action, allowing evolution into something new, and yet the same.
Above all, everything you need to create the best rendition of you is already inside of you. It just needs a little spark that sets your heart on fire, and activate all the pieces of you, allowing them to be molded into the person you aspire to be.
Focus on your passion + take action!
Don’t get stuck on analyzing which step to take. Just choose, and go, and adjust fire along the way.
Continue to learn, change, and grow. In other words, evolve until you find yourself looking in the mirror at the YOU you knew you were all along.
