I recently completed my first-ever half-marathon!
Going into this experience, my mind was filled with doubt and fear.
My inner critic’s voice was loud and clear – it was hard to ignore her.
Will you make it?
Do you have what it takes?
Maybe this isn’t for you!
You didn’t train hard enough!
Look at you – You’re no athlete!
Inhale – exhale! (The awareness knowing this wasn’t serving me) As I ran through the city, my inner critic began to quiet down. This was no place for her.
With every step that I took, as air filled my lungs, and I felt the energy around me, I connected to the inner mentor that I have within. Her voice and message were different and reassuring.
Mija,
You were made for this and much more!
You CAN do hard things.
Betzy, Believe in yourself!
Keep going!
Mile after mile, my body ached. It was a challenge to keep going but those words carried me through. They gave me strength when I needed it the most.
As I was near the end, I was reenergized by the cheers and chants of families, friends, and complete strangers who were there to support and celebrate one another. It was magical!
And, the moment came, I crossed that finish line with so much joy, pride, and even tears in my eyes.
Crossing that line meant so much more – relief but most importantly, it was a reminder that I was capable!
